Provision for young people who aren't in mainstream full-time
For young people aged 7 to 19, delivered in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf referrers and schools. Two ways to take part: in school with filming equipment, or online through gameplay recording and editing. Both can run 1-2-1 or as a small group.
Story, filming and editing
This is engagement, confidence and skills provision. It is designed to sit alongside a young person's core education and complement it. It is not a replacement for it, and I will not pretend otherwise to win a referral.
With the filming equipment there, sessions cover coming up with an idea, filming it on camera, and editing it into a finished video. Filmmaking has a low barrier to starting and a high ceiling, so somebody who has disengaged from written work can still finish a session with something real that they made and other people watched.
Sessions run 1-2-1 or as a small group depending on what the setting needs. Format, length and pace are agreed with the referrer rather than fixed in advance.
How a placement gets set up
Get in touch
Email me with the young person's year group, the setting, and roughly what you are hoping the provision does for them.
We talk it through
Group size, how often, how long, and anything I need to know to plan properly, including safeguarding and any additional needs.
Paperwork and agreement
Written agreement on what is delivered, where, when and at what cost, plus the information sharing that has to be in place between us.
Delivery starts
Sessions run, with feedback to you at a frequency we have agreed rather than a standard template nobody reads.
Gameplay recording and editing, over video call
No travel, no new setting to walk into, no equipment to arrange. For a young person who cannot access mainstream or in-person AP, or for whom a screen is simply easier than a room, sessions run over video call and are built around a game they already play rather than filming equipment. The aim is the same as every other strand: something they get visibly good at, fairly quickly.
Recording gameplay
The young person plays a game they already know, we record it together on the call, and it becomes the raw material for the session, in the same way filmed footage does in school.
Editing it into something finished
Cutting, titles and structure, same editing skills as the in-school sessions, just applied to gameplay rather than filmed video. They finish with something made, not just played.
What's needed
A device that runs the game, and something to join the video call on. Nothing specialist, and nothing to buy for it.
Online AP is running now, arranged directly with me rather than booked through Ticket Tailor. Email or ring to talk through what a placement would look like.
Stated plainly, before you ask
We are working toward Arts Award
Creator Academi is not an Arts Award centre and sessions do not currently lead to an Arts Award qualification. Adviser training at Bronze and Silver with a SEND focus is booked for 22 October. Discover and Explore adviser training is not yet booked because the October course was full. Centre registration with Trinity College London has not been completed.
I would rather tell you that up front than have you find out later. The full position, including what is not in progress, is on the accreditation page.
For referrers, schools and families
Whether you are a referrer, a local authority officer, school staff, or a parent asking about an online session, you will speak to me directly.
