After-school clubs

Six weeks, one film, one showcase

A weekly after-school club for children aged 7 to 12, run inside partner primary schools. Mainly Years 5 and 6, though it flexes where a school needs it to.

How the block works

Children work in pairs with one tablet between two. Each pair has a Filmmaker and a Performer, and those roles rotate through the block so both children get time in front of the camera and both get time running it.

Across six weeks they take an idea from nothing to a finished short video, editing it themselves in KineMaster. The last week is a showcase screening where every single pair gets a named award.

Groups run up to 20 children. With one person delivering, 12 to 14 is where it genuinely works best and that is what I aim for.

  • All equipment provided. Your child needs nothing from home.
  • DBS checked delivery and full insurance.
  • Nothing posted anywhere without your written consent.
  • One price covers the full six weeks. No kit fee, nothing else to pay.

What a place includes

  • All six weekly sessions
  • Tablets and all filming equipment
  • A finished film to keep
  • A place at the showcase screening

Current prices are shown on the booking page.

Week by week

What happens across the six weeks

01

Getting the idea out

Pairs are set, roles are picked, and we work out what each pair actually wants to make. This is noisier than people expect.

02

How to make it watchable

The three things that make anything worth watching: a hook, a promise and a payoff. Then they apply it to their own idea.

03

Filming

Out with the tablets. Framing, sound, and why the first take is almost never the one you keep.

04

Editing in KineMaster

Cutting, timing, titles, music. This is where most children surprise themselves.

05

Finishing and fixing

Watching their own film back properly, spotting what is not working, and having time to fix it.

06

Showcase screening

Every pair's film played to the group, and a named award for every pair.

Where it runs

Getting a block into your child's school

Running now

The block runs at Ton Pentre Primary at the moment, with conversations under way at other primary schools across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

School not on the list?

Tell me which school and I will approach them. That is genuinely how most of them start, off the back of one parent asking.

School staff

If you work at a school and want to talk about hosting a block, the packages and what I need from you are on the schools page.

Booking a place

Places for the current block go through Ticket Tailor. If you want to check something first, email keiron@creatoracademi.co.uk or ring 07808 600272.
